The World Health Organization tells us there were three pandemics during the 20th Century and another in 2009. But for most of us here on the Sunshine Coast, the current COVID-19 pandemic is an extraordinary experience.
With a significant percentage of the community self-isolating to reduce the rate at which the virus spreads, many businesses are closing, employees are being laid off, freelancers are seeing work slow down, medical clinics are minimizing in-person visits, the hospital is restricting visitors, and transportation schedules are being affected.
At the same time, government, businesses, non-profits and community members are stepping up in amazing ways to support locals. People are drawing together to support each other, reminding us of how lucky we are to live in this small ferry-bound community.
This website is built by the Sunshine Coast Community Task Force: a team of dedicated volunteer and community organizations working together to connect people to the resources they need during the COVID-19 crisis. We will be updating this website on an ongoing basis.
